Gold Glove Academy

Hitter's Choice Gold Glove Academy will be coming soon.  These workouts will be separated by age groups and will be limited to 10 players per workout in order to achieve  personalized attention for your player. Typical workouts will last 1.5 to 2 hours and the cost will be $20 per workout.

 SKILL DRILLS

1. FOOT WORK DRILLS will focus on "ladder" and "cone" drills. These typical drills include; run throughs, bunny hop, right foot in it, left foot in it, slolom, in-outs, incky shuffle, reverse icky, Irish jig, reverse Irish, zig zags.  Cones drills focus on burst of speed drills needed in base stealing and power leads.

2. THROWING DRILLS will focus on 12 types of throwing drills with a focus on proper mechanics. Fielding a ground ball or fly ball is a 2 part process.  First, you have to cleanly field the ball and secondly, then make a CLEAN HARD THROW to the receiving player.  Such drills include; backhand flip, forearm flip, glove flip, squares, knee down, good form, long toss, left step into it, ball drop, goofy foot run down, 4 corners.

3. MICRO DRILLS wil focus on building the correct foot work sequence when fielding a ball and then when throwing a ball. These drills focus on eliminating extra foot steps and bad hand positioning. Such drills include; bare hands, single glove receiving, flat gloves, soft hands, short hops, back hands, save the face, left right step/left right throw, just to name a few.

4. MACRO POSITION DRILL will focus on building the specific skill set needed at each position.

First Basemen will learn to stand tall, shift feet, digs, block balls, high throws, come off the bag catch and tag.

Middle Infielders will focus on turning double plays using 3 types of throwing drills; flips, pivot throw, knee down throw.  They will also focus on 3 types of footwork utilized in turning a double play.

Third Basemen will focus on playing the tough to read short hop. This corner position is hot and the player has to be able to react instantly.

Catchers will focus on; ball transition drills, framing, feet work for throw downs, infield pop ups, drop and blocks, and when to use the short hop block.

Outfielders will focus on; first step back, runner tagging throw, knee down, infielder stop, shoelace do or die.

Pitchers will focus on; the proper footwork and arm positioning for the pickoff.

5. MEAT AND POTATO

Put it all together. Grounders, grounders, and more grounders.  Such drills include; Shots; repetitions grounder and throw; under stress of live runner, live runner double play.

Fly balls; dropping line drive, high flys, overhead, gapper left, gapper right, grounders, etc.

Not every drill set can be accomplished at every practice. The practice is designed to be a progression of skill building.
